A calendar year is our attempt to box up something that doesn't divide evenly: Earth actually takes about 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun, not a clean 365. If we ignored that extra fraction, the calendar would slowly drift out of sync with the seasons โ over centuries, July would eventually land in winter.
The fix is the leap year: every four years, February gets a 29th day to absorb the extra quarter-day. But four years of quarter-days adds up to slightly more than one full day every century, so the Gregorian calendar adds a correction โ a year divisible by 100 is not a leap year, unless it's also divisible by 400. That's why 2000 was a leap year but 1900 and 2100 are not. Our tool applies this exact rule for any year you enter.
The Gregorian year tracks the Sun, but many cultural calendars โ the Hindu, Islamic, and Chinese calendars among them โ are lunar or lunisolar, and mark New Year on dates that shift relative to the Gregorian calendar each year. That's part of why festivals like Diwali or Eid fall on different Gregorian dates annually.
The Roman calendar originally began in March, tied to the start of the military and farming season. January 1 became the start of the civil year under Julius Caesar's reform in 45 BCE, largely for administrative reasons, and the Gregorian calendar carried that convention forward in 1582.
A year is too big a unit to plan directly. Break it into four quarters, give each one a single theme or goal, and only then fill in months and weeks.
Holidays, renewal dates, exams, and recurring deadlines go on the calendar first. Flexible plans get built around these anchors, not the other way round.
Use the days-left counter above to notice when a quarter is ending, and spend twenty minutes reviewing what shifted before planning the next one.
Lay out semesters, exam blocks, and holiday breaks across the full academic year on one printable page.
Plan quarterly goals, financial-year milestones, and renewal dates against the whole year instead of jumping between twelve separate month views.
Print a full-year grid for a wall calendar, planner insert, or a quick reference pinned above your desk.

Years divisible by 100 are not leap years โ unless also divisible by 400. So 1900 and 2100 are common years, but 2000 was a leap year.

Yes. It applies the exact Gregorian rule โ divisible by 4 is a leap year, except century years, which must be divisible by 400 โ so years like 2000, 2024, and 2400 are correctly flagged, while 1900 and 2100 are not.
